Homeland TV series to be adapted for Indian audience

The show, which has found a wide audience in India, too, is in fact a remake of the Israeli TV series, titled Hatufim (Prisoners of War). Now, Star network has purchased the rights to the original series to remake it for Indian television. To adapt it for the medium, they have brought on board filmmaker Nikhil Advani.

The Indian version, it is learnt, will depict the character of Brody as an Indian agent held prisoner of war in Pakistan. In the wake of the recent Pathankot attacks, the series might take off well but it remains to be seen if it will be able to tread the fine line and not make Muslims, a minority already feeling insecure, seem like villains.

Nikhil Advani to direct 'Homeland' for Star Plus? - Times of India

Purab Kohli, and Satyadeep Misra, who was last seen as Ranbir Kapoor's buddy in Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet, play the two protagonists. The duo's ordeal in readjusting to civilian life forms the show's premise.

Sandhya Mridul is Satyadeep's wife who moves on with his brother in his absence while Purab's love interest is Kai Po Che! actress Amrita Puri. Hot on their tails is Manish Chaudhary as a RAW agent, who believes that the army men have aligned with Pakistan's ISI. He was last seen as the fiery tabloid editor of Glitz, modelled on Blitz founder-editor Russi Karanjia, in Bombay Velvet.
The yet-to-be-titled Hindi Homeland has been picked up for 85 episodes by a channel. "There's still a lot of writing to be done. Only the casting has been completed. They plan to begin shooting in April and the show will go on air by the yearend," reveals a source close to the development.
