hi,i have a few videos  which i want to encode into some dvd player compatible format! Also, i want the file to be such that it is password protected and won't play in the player until the correct numeric password is entered!:redface:That is, insert the disc containing divx file (or any other format- I personally use dvd author to create dvd's with menus!). Now, the divx file asks for the password (has to be numeric to be entered thru dvd player remote) and the voila! Access to divx file is granted and it plays on the player! Else, not plays! Please help, as this maybe quite useful to many other guys too!

Before we create such files, i think the sofrtware for DVD players(all companies + models ??) should be updated so that, they have to check each file whether it is password protected or not. and prompt for password.

Numeric password is ok
And if the password is alphanumeric, it should display a keylist.
Some hefty task.But not impossible.

currently dvd player remotes have numeric keypad, and a numeric password of say 10-digits is enuf !:)

Onida DVD player suppors this function. I have one DVD, if i play this in Onida DVD player, first it ask for password. If pwd is correct, then it plays the movie.

oh cool! can u please give me more details. is the password in dvd itself? etc etc...

Yes, we have to set the password in DVD itself. 4 digit numeric pwd. And also the DVD should be set with Pwd during burning. (I dont know how to set the pwd in DVD during burning, beucase the DVD with pwd is a original DVD)

aww man! please!!!! help me out! please!!!

I use this freeware Program
TRUECRYPT

On Linux,Win XP and Vista,Its great and really fast!!
It pwd protects my data DVD's and some contain Divx Format data.
but I'm not sure it will work in a DVD player.(...U might want to give it a try though)

I guess the firmware will have to be special like the Onida player mentioned above.
From my earlier googling sessions that i remember from last year,
if the DVD requires a pwd; then the Player Firmware should ask you for that password with an onscreen prompt
When inserted in a generic DVD players; the firmware will simply reply
"Unknown Format" or "No Disc" or simply spit it out as unreadable
