World's longest free Wi-Fi zone in Patna — economictimes.indiatimes.com
Once known as a backward state, Bihar has made a strong bid for a mention on the world's infotech map as chief minister Nitish Kumar unveiled the 20km free Wi-Fi zone, the longest across the globe, at a function christened e-Bihar summit in Patna on Wednesday. Kumar also unveiled a 'city surveillance and dial 100' scheme under which at least 100 CCTV cameras installed in different localities of the state capital became operational. A state data centre has also been opened for storing of the 'data' collected by these cameras.
bade bhaiya :(

Can somebody from Patna who has tested the network in terms of speed, connectivity and user experience share it in this forum please ?
A 20 km long wifi zone is indeed a marvelous job done by the Nitish Kumar government!

Long range WiFi is not a difficult to implement at all, all you need is MONEY. Its more appropriate if we use it as a tool to educate and learn something important. Most of the people are going to use it for Facebook or Torrents.
However its admirable that they did a job but that's not the only challenge infact its just beginning.
Build -> Deploy -> Maintain -> Expand
So lets so how far it goes and what new Ghotala comes (WiFiGate) of Rs.5 Crore or more :)

Yup. Such projects are easy to implement. You give money to a private company which does the hard work. You get tons of press as a result. After that you still need to pay but you get nothing in return as it is old news.
The logic behind this project appears to implement public monitoring systems though.
