Well, I will just pay the amount this time, the product is quite important and I don't have the patience to argue, it was fortunate that the item was not an expensive one.
I have bought 15-20 items from China of value ranging from $2-$80 and I never had to pay a single penny as custom charges, DHL delivered the the item in 3-4 days but the price was too expensive to pay, I will probably choose cheap USPS shipping next time.

Dhl charge custom duty on orders shipped through Ali etc as well. Low value items as well.

Do they charge custom duty just on item or item+shipping, if the latter then it's $80, 3200 is still too high IMO, shouldn't custom duty be lower on health/medicine related products
Yup. They charge customs on value declared on invoice so yeah they charged you customs on 80$. but still, 44$ customs on 80$ is too much. Did you order whey protein?

It was a magnesium supplement, i needed magnesium for my brain and the only supplement which could do that effectively was magnesium L-THREONATE, it was impossible to find here locally in India, the ones available on Amazon.in were also imported on order by 3rd party.

The one on Amazon shows 1-3 weeks time for delivery so it is also probably imported by the seller, it's 4000 for 1 bottle whereas amazon.com was selling 2 for 3500 so I thought it couldn't possibly be more than 8k after taxes and import duty.
The evitamins and other similar sites only show product cost at the beginning but during checkout it shows around $70-80 for shipping

I think they can make/sell other types of magnesium but L-THREONATE one is a patented product, I don't think other companies even have permission to make the main ingredient, they can only sell the final product
