Persistent DNS Issues and Connection Timeouts with Static IP on Airtel Xstream Fiber

Hey folks,

I am reaching out to share an odd experience I've been having with my XtreamFiber broadband connection, hoping to find someone who has faced similar issues or has a workaround.

Recently, I decided to get a static IP. However, post this change, the network behavior has been quite erratic. I am observing frequent DNS lookup failures, despite trying out both Cloudflare and Google DNS. The speed remains as promised, but every 20 minutes or so, random requests tend to timeout, which is quite frustrating. Even a simple task like opening a website or even a simple Google search takes an eternity (10-20 seconds at times).

Just for adding more context : I have the Sercomm router and it's bridged to my TP-Link Router. The issue is present on both routers( I've checked the same with and without bridging the connection )

I've been on calls with AIRTEL's technical support, but after discussing it with three different engineers, it appears they are as clueless as I am. According to them, everything looks perfect from their end.

It's becoming quite a hassle as the connection becomes unreliable. Has anyone here encountered similar issues or has any insights on how to resolve this? Your help would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

So the thing is, Airtel is giving out static IP on brasdel-8 gateway, and all the north static IP customers are on the same gateway. I was on that too and had similar problems as you are having. Then, I requested to cancel static IP, waited for a month but it was never cancelled, then I had to take new connection to be back on BRASLKO-1 which is lucknow gateway. Now everything is fine. One thing also, PPPoE session used to last for very less time. And connection used to go down everyday for atleast two times.

Yes. Exactly that Nxtra. Seems like I'll be going that route as well. I'm just not sure why are they not willing to acknowledge the issue.

Because that would involve checking the physical media, which is not something they would do for a broadband user.
Other than that, there is also the need to check in to Layer 2.

If it was really a BNG degradation issue, they would have alarms popping internally all over.

Guys static ip related issues if any is just due to airtel changing equipment from Huawei to Nokia.

this is an ongoing process and will take couple of months to complete. So random nightly downtime of few minutes to hours is normal.

If you are unhappy with static ip then just cancel it.

@Sushubh please merge all threads related to static ip issues in one thread or close unnecessary ones

Rickysin random nightly downtime of few minutes to hours is understandable but every 10-20 minutes or so, in the day is just unusable.

It was unbearable even when I wanted to bear all of this for good, then gave up and took another connection.
