Garibi Hatao or Garib Hatao? Need to ask Congress about it!

Can anybody tell me what the acceptable amount per month for BPL should be then ? higher ? how much more

Why are none of these articles telling me that ?

Is a daily expenditure of Rs 31 enough to sustain a family of five in a city like Delhi and Mumbai? Country's top-most planning body, Planning Commission, says yes. In its affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, the panel quoting the Tendulkar Committee's recommendations said the urban poverty line is fixed at an expenditure of Rs 4,284 per month while it is Rs 3,905 a month in rural areas. It means that the money is enough for a family of five to incur expenses on health, food and education. A family spending more would fall in the above poverty line (APL) category.
Now how did they come up with this number of five ?

Yes, it needs to be higher, and also, needs to be calculated on a city to city basis, because,
What may be barely enough for living in Bombay would give you a decent life in say, Udupi.

no offence but that Rs 4,284 per month for 5 is total BS in this time !

Could it be that the article was mistaken, and it is per head?
In that case it would be reasonable

Isn't their a problem here,When the govt imposes tax on products like petrol and spends on welfare schemes, most people oppose it, but when the govt tries to lower the threshold for poverty then most people oppose that also. What should the govt do? Impose more tax on the middle class and rich or not take enough care of the poor? They obviously don't have the money to do both.It seems the middle class in this country wants to have its cake and eat it too.

Middle class is not objecting to welfare... middle class is objecting to taxes which just keeps rising. Income tax, entertainment tax, service tax, VAT tax, this and that tax.Government makes road from my money and then charges me toll tax!! Reasonable toll tax is ok, but 30Rs / 40Rs everyday?? What non-sense.And poor are not reducing, they are increasing. Where in the world is MY money going? This is what my problem is.I am middle class person and at the rate things are going I wud fall BPL!
