Guys, enough of bashing bureaucracy. Tell me how much do you pay to your driver, maid etc? I have seen driver getting 5k/month and he (barely) manages his family with wife and 3 children, that too in Mumbai, one of the more expensive cities in India. I think that if government really wants to help poor people, they should first target people earning less than this. I am sure, there are plenty of them.Also help me understand the logic of Rs 31/day. If I divide 4284 by 30, I get Rs143/day. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Btw I still dont know how figure of 31 was arrived at. 4284 a month ~ 138Rs a day.

I guess it would be as-
Rs 4284/30 (days) = Rs 143 (142.8)
Rs 143/5 (members of family) = Rs 28.5 (might be made to Rs 32)
mathematically there is no question
But why use the numer 5 for a family. Who says a family only has five members, maybe they are taking some sort of average here.
Was watching Sagarika's show yesterday and this question was never even addressed, all we had were a bunch of foaming at the mouth guests. planning commision is bad blah blah, and if you look at numerous newspapers they all say the same thing too.
And why is it only the man should be working and not the wife. A lot of BPL families even have their kids working.
The point is very few ppl can exist at such a level, most will be making more or in bad months they will make less.
One of the biggest flaws with the concept of BPL or a minimum wage is if you make Rs.1 above you no longer qualify for any concessions or will get benefits. So there is a good incentive to hover around it and live off the govt.
Was reading an article about TN the other day and it turns out that many BPL ppl were selling their Rs1 or 2/kg subsidised rice to agents for Rs.8 who then sold them for Rs.14. One fellow said i can feed my family of 7 with just 20kg rice per month, but govt gives 35 kg.

^ one can't only eat rice and survive....vegetables/oil/cooking oil etc have costs which are much much higher than the cost of rice and wheat...
Thats fair but consider that only 4% of Indians have PAN numbers ie only 4% pay income tax.
Where is the money to come from to subsidise a higher BPL line.

I'm saying i don't entirely buy this story with the info i've read so far. Not doubting the figures mentioned or anything just the conclusion. There seems to be a vey emotional reaction across the board to it from a lot of ppl and am not sure i understand why that is.
