your modem/router should be connected to switch's input port and your friends and your PCs should be connected to the output ports. then it should work. assuming you enabled DHCP on router/modem and PCs or you use static IPs and both PCs have different IPs configured...

the LAN wire is directly connected to my Computer.........& it wrked for few hours wen it ws first connected........& yea DHCP is enabled.......& all the wires r connected properly....

1. Try this patch if ur using Win XP SP2: Download details: Update for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (KB884020)

2. After applying the patch, add this Registry fix (double-click the file and select Yes): http://www.mediafire.com/file/2nyj4mlnjnm/Fix.reg

3. Reboot

Other things you could check/try:

4. In Device Manager, go to the properties of the Network card, click on Advanced and find the Link Speed and Duplex section. Change it from Auto Detect to 10Mbps/Full Duplex. Reboot and see if it works.

5. Disable any software firewall on ur comp.

6. Try another ethernet cable or connect urs to ur friends comp to see if it's working.

7. Try disabling DHCP and assigning Static IP's to the comps.
