portal id or uid?

Which id should be used for connecting via pppoe - portal id or uid? BSNL gave both of these for a recent connection.

Use User ID for connection in PPPoE mode.Portal ID is for checking BB usage.

Of course you need to use the UID (Or User ID) to connect to the internet via the PPPoE mode. Portal Id is to be used to check your data usage only. With Portal Id, you can change the password you use with the Portal ID.With Portal Id, you can also change the password, you use with your User ID for connecting to the internet.
