Hi

In need some assistance.
I am a technical person however do not have much experience with "handling" aDSL modems or Wireless Routers.

Current Setup:

1. Using Airtel Wireless Broadband
2. Using MTNL aDSL Modem. Model UTSTAR 304R2
3. Using D-Link - DI 724P+ wireless Router
4. One Dell System
5. One HP Laptop
6. One Compaq System

I have connected my aDSL Modem to Airtel
I have then connected my Wireless Modem to the aDSL Modem using Wireline.
I have connected the Dell and Compaq to Wireless Modem using Wireline.
I have connected HP to Wireless Modem using Wireline

No settings (special or advanced) have been made on aDSL modem or the Wireless Router.

I have a web server running on HP laptop.

I would like to connect to the web server on the HP Laptop from the internet

I go to What Is My IP Address? - IP Address Lookup, Bandwidth Speed Test, IP Info, plus more.
I type in the IP Address provided by this website in IE and I reach the User/Pass for the aDSL Modem.

Now, I guess, I would have to perform a port-forward from aDSL modem to Wireless Router.

I am not familiar with this screen. I would request you to please provide step by step/interactive assistance on how to set this up.

Since you are a technical person, will tell you the idea of doing it. Rest you can do it yourself. You have to bridge the modem & router together. And, give username/password in the router. Then, in advance configuration on the router page, forward port 80 to the local IP of webserver PC

Using Airtel Wireless Broadband
Please clarify this. Confirm UT304R2 has DDNS option.

Thanks for your reply!

I am not sure on how to bridge the router and the modem!

On the modem side, I have to use PPPoE/PPPoA. Using this, I have to connect to Airtel
There is an option for Bridge Mode. If I use this, I am not sure on how to connect to Airtel if I use this mode.

On the Router side, I am not sure if I can find Bridge Mode

In Home->WAN
I can see the following options
Dynamic IP Address
Static IP Address
PPPoE
Others

The Description for Others is WAN Type for PPTP, L2TP and BigPond Cable connect to ISP.

Please let me know if you would like me to include screenshots.

Please clarify this. Confirm UT304R2 has DDNS option.

the UTSTAR 304R2 does not have DDNS options!

1.What about Airtel Wireless Broadband ? Are you using a data card ?
2.In the MTNL link I had given, you can download the user manual for UT304R2
http://mumbai.mtnl.net.in/triband/htm/t_details.htm
http://www.calcutta.bsnl.co.in/dataoneinstall/mu04.html for reference .
3.http://www.dlink.com.au/tech/default.asp?model=DI-724P&TemplateId=21930
4..Try portforward.com
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/UTStarcom/UT-300R2U/POP3.htm similar modem.
5. confirm setup as mentioned by me in Para two.
6. Mention the web server program/software you use.
7. Please post Device status page ( screenshot)of UT304R2 for my records.

@original poster,Once you bridge the modem with router, your router will have the control of dialing to the isp. ie, you have to give the username/password in router and modem will just act as a medium to dial (adsl jack is connected to modem)Once you get connected thru router, your router will have the public IP. So, when you port forward, you are forwarding straight to the PC. Which ever software you use as webserver, you need to forward port 80 unless you specify separately...Dont give any username/password in the modem, instead give in the router. give the ip of the router (static ip 192.168.1.2?) in modem to bridge. I think portforwarding works only after bridging if you have more than 1 device ! (ie Modem + Router)DDNS is not a must if you can update your IP manually! You even get ddns client which does the same. Incase you still having confusion, post the Bridging page screenshots with IP address of the router, modem, dhcp page of modem & router

Hi

I must admit, I am confused!
I figured that if I enabled Port Forwarding aDSL->Router->Webserver, I issue would have been resolved!
However, I guess there seems to be a different solution altogether!

I am not familiar with Bridging at all

Here are the screenshots

aDSL Modem. IP Address is 192.168.1.1

On this page, I click on WAN, I am displayed the following page:

I have scratched out the telephone number (for privacy)
When I had first setup this modem, I had selected PPPoE option and entered by user ID and other details.

Do you want me to use the Bridge radio button?
If I select the Bride Radio button, then the following two fields are displayed:

Connection Type.. Type drop down. Two items are displayed in this drop down
1483 Bridged IP VC-Mux
1483 Bridged IP LLC

Traffic Index. Drop down. One item is displayed. 0

The IP Address of the Netgear router is 192.168.0.1
I am using IIS 7 on my HP laptop

Well guys, I had a similar problem where i was trying to Double port forward. I found a easier way to do this. First, Configure the wireless router to obtain a dynamic ip address from the router (obviously the Ip for the router is not required after we are done with this), then ensure that the Wireless network is working properly by connecting to it. (please ensure that the Router is not connected to the Modem). Connect the Ehternet cable from the Modem to the Ethernet port on the Router ***Connect to the Ethernet Port and not to the WAN Port*** (The router would have 5 ports, 1 WAN port, and 4 Ethernet ports, connect to the Ethernet port). Now, Configure your Modem to provide dynamic Ips to your computer. Assign an Ip of this series to your Web Server manually. There you Go. Now your Wireless Router acts like a Wireless HUB and not a Router. All Ip's are Obtained from the Modem. Once This is done, Configure NAT on your Modem (if you have a Beetel 220bx or 110bx, go to 192.168.1.1/main.html. You may have to type this in). Add a virtual server. ***Please note that if you are trying to access the Public IP from within your Local network, you will only see the DSL Router page. Try to access it from a different network, if you have a Data card, it would be helpful to check your new setting. Cheers!
