post paid connection a necessity for iphone 3g?

hey guys,currently i'm using airtel prepaid connection...i want to buy iPhone 3g...my budget is upto 20k...a friend of mine told me that i will have to get a postpaid connection in order to use the iphone....so can some one conform this??i do not want to change to a post paid connection....should i wait for the announcement regarding the details or should i purchase some other phone?

its very unlikely that airtel would offer an iPhone on a prepaid connection. but if you can you should wait for 2-3 months to get a new phone. Apple/vodafone just might surprise us with their iphone offers.

My best guess is that it's not going to be a contract, but at the same time it will only be offered to post-paid customers. (Who knows, maybe if stocks are limited they may offer it only to post-paid customers who have been with the company for at least 6 months!)
