Hey guys, wish you a happy new year.

I am a user of MTNL Triband combo UL-999 plan that gives me 2 mbps speeds till 25 GB after that 1 mbps unlimited.

Technically 2 mbps speeds should come from the 1st date of the month but here is the catch.

On the 1st day of every month i check my usage and it shows 0 mb means the fresh month has started. But speed i get is 1 mbps only. After using like 1 GB or so , i see the increased speeds of 2 mbps and it continues till 27-28 GB .

And then returns back to 1 mbps.
I want to ask why this abrupt system of speed allocation by MTNL it is very vague. They should staty giving me 2 mbps speeds from the start of the month and reduce it after 25 gb but they do it abruptly.

Does anyone have any idea why it is happening?

well its MTNL they are always slow due to some reason i don't know exactly what it is but this happens with everyone who is on MTNL. Just like them even their system is slow :D

They have 6 hour sessions after which your IP is refreshed maybe its something to do with that. If you are 100mb away from hitting your FUP, you'll continue to get non FUped speeds till the session is refreshed after 6 hours.

Reboot your modem two times.
1. Before going to bed any time before 12 am midnight.
2. When you wake up in the morning or any time after 1 am. (For speed increase)

You must make sure that you reboot the modem before midnight on 30/31st of the month or else, last day's downloads will be counted in next month's data cycle. Reboot modem again in the morning when you wake up so that your speeds again return to normal.

I have tried to reboot the modem at sharp 12 am but the server is behind by 45 minutes. Speeds return to normal only if you reboot after 12:45 am for the second time. So I rounded it off to after 1 am. I reboot it 2nd time when I wake up.

Rebooting before 12 am midnight is a mandatory to prevent data loss. 2nd reboot is not required unless you crave for speed in the morning 1st day of every month.

I always close my router around 11 pm or so at night and open it around 10 am the next day.

So i guess i am doing the right thing but still it is very abrupt as far as speeds and data usage is concerned.

I was surprised to see that speeds pre fup came yesterday itself and when i logged into my acc to see data usage it was more than 2 gb , and i am pretty much sure i didnt use more than 600-800 mb. Even if i assume 1 gb at max , how it is showing 2 gb+ usage.

I hope there isn't something fishy from mtnl side.

PS- I have recently started online gaming and i need low pings for better gameplay.

Will using fixed IP address do any good?

With my plan i can have 1 free fixed IP.

But i don't have any idea how to know that or how to use it.
Please advice.
