Onboard sound
Windows XP SP2
2 HDDs @ 80Gb each. One connected via SATA, one through IDE.

Any idea what the probem could be though? I have tried with different CDs of Ubuntu 8.04 LTS desktop and Kubuntu CDs too. Same problem each time. I got 5 cds each of Ubuntu and Kubuntu shipped so i could distribute, but no one wants to try a character user interface OS, and this is my first time on Ubuntu. so any help is welcome

Live CD doesn't load (some BusyBox failed to set xfermode) - Ubuntu Forums mentions a similar problem. See if some solutions work. Another ques. Did you try WUBI and suggest the same to others? Nice way to try the os.

Guys. Ubuntu 8.04 LTS was available in the June 2008 DVD of the 'Digit' mag. In fact this mag regularly gives the latest Linux distros in their CD's or DVD's. Also there r guys in India who sell it for as little as 200 bucks eg LinuxFlavour!, The Flavours of Linux or even from Request CD/DVD | Zyxware Technologies for about 50 - 60 bucks. U might save time
