NEW DELHI: The government today said the private sector has invested Rs 1,88,499 crore in the telecom sector in 2008-09.
The private sector and MNCs invested Rs 1,88,499 crore in the sector last fiscal, the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Gurudas Kamat said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha to a question on participation of private firms in developing telecommunication infrastructure in rural areas.
The investment by the private sector in the telecom space for the year ended March 2007 stood at Rs 1,05,448 crore, he added. However, the rural-urban break up of investment was not available.
