Hello Everyone,
I am planning to take Airtel Xstream Fiber Connection in Mumbai.
The installation charge is Rs. 1000. Which can be waived off if I opt for 3/6/12 Months plans. Only for 499 Plan, we need to take 6 months for no installation charge.

I have few queries regarding the Airtel Xstream Fiber.

1. If I opt for 799 (Rs. 942 with GST) 100 Mbps Plan for 3 Months which gives Free Installation. I need to pay upfront total Rs. 2826 for 3 months. Can I change the plan to 499 during the 3 months duration?

2. How will the billing work after 3 months? Do I need to pay in advance every month?

3. What if I don't want to use for say 10 days, how will be billing done in this case?

4. What router is good in Airtel?

5. Should I take Airtel Black to avoid Installation Charges? They are giving 40 Mbps + Rs. 300 worth channels in Rs. 699 (Rs. 824 with GST). I will need to pay Rs. 4000 upfront which will be adjusted for subsequent bills as per their website. There is no Installation charge and 1 month free. As I already have a Airtel Xstream Box, so I don't have to pay any security deposit for it (I think so).
Can I surrender Airtel Black afterwards and opt for regular 499 Plan?

6. What option would be beneficial, Rs. 799 for 3 Months (Upfront cost Rs. 2826) or Airtel Black Rs. 699 Plan (Upfront cost Rs. 4000)?

  1. If you are getting a Postpaid Connection then yes, you can downgrade the plan to 499 after paying 2826 and once the connection has been initialized.
  2. After 3 months, you will exhaust your credit and a monthly billing cycle will generate like normal. You can contact airtel customer care if you desire to pay in advance to get some discounts on the 6/12 months payment but this will need to be done every time.
  3. You can't just stop using the connection for a specific amount of time and expect airtel to adjust their billing accordingly, but they have a postpaid stop mode whereby paying INR 250 you can stop the billing cycle for 30 days. There is no other way.
  4. Depending on usage, if you are not a very heavy user any router is good, although in Mumbai circle their offerings are - Dragonpath, ZTE, and Sercomm. ZTE is good, in terms of range and performance.
  5. Not recommended as it is quite convoluted to work with Airtel Black.
  6. The first one, since this way your Credited Amount would actually stay in Broadband Account and it's a lot easier to work with when it comes to Payment and Charges. Airtel Black comes with VIP customer care but that is one of the worst so, you are better off going with the standard.
While it says priority resolution times, since in Mumbai Fiber Maintenance is done by a third party it can take 4-7 days to fix very simple issues.

I was an Airtel Xstream Customer for 9 Months, while the internet itself is good, their overall customer service is terrible so tread lightly and befriend your local Airtel Engineer, he'd be the one who will actually help you out more than airtel itself.

Sorry to bump this thread, but I had a similar query as OP.
My uncle has opted for 6months for 499 plan, but he will be going out of station for quite a while. While there exists an option called "locker system" wherein you can lock your connection without paying full amount, it was showing as "Not Eligible" for some reason.
Any idea as to why that error and how can I keep my connection active.
He will be moving next month.

@awemonk For some very stupid reason, 121 won't work when on roaming. I get a message stating " the number in invalid".
