I thought about posting this in the forum but I wanted to target this crowd. What 'political' books do you recommend as a good read. Sure there are plenty of history books...but does anyone have any recommendations on specific time periods or biographies that doesn't sacrifice giving a storytelling sense?

I have hardly read any books by and on political personalities apart from parts of Discovery of India and an old biography on Nehru. So can't recommend any particular book. On the contrary, I would like to know what everybody else is reading or has read.

In any case, it is incredibly difficult to publish tell all books based on Indian politics. If you dare to write something not so nice about some politician or personality, their goons will come and bash your teeth in. Another problem is that book burning and banning is a national game of sorts in India. So Naturam Godse's book is banned (officially. Some folks might have copies circulating among their circle, particularly in Pune). And so are many others. Not only that, books by former officers in government too face problems. If I am not mistaken, some one was recently facing charges under the Official Secrets Act coz he wrote a book. Considering all this, I expect that the only 'political' books officially available in the Indian Market would be ones where the content has been filtered and all 'problem areas' cleaned up.

If you are interested, you could try Musharaff's In The Line Of Fire (also known as Figments Of My Imagination). That should make good reading.

Apart from books, good amount of information available on Internet (Main Page - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), here I found lot's of details, although WIKI is also written by general users, but I think data is often check for authentication and if anything is incorrect, it is removed
