Bad comparison, the sateliite is geo-stationary, your NASA rocket is moving, Also how long is the blackout for anyway ? a few minutes isn't it.
How long are ppl talking about here ? It goes out yes but how long, minutes or hours.
BTW, i'm not on DTH but have a wired digital connection, the other day they sent us a message, saying 70% of DTH coustomers are facing blackout. The figure is prolly exagerated but of course no problem with them

How mundane? Not comparison or analogy. Just listing instances where signal loss or contact blackout happens.
Did the wired digital connection operator say which DTH customers (70%) faced black out? I hope intelligent customers (both dth and wired digital) did not fall for this!
ya,its wrong to compare the case of spacecraft with DTH signals as spaces craft looses contact when it has to pass through ionosphere but in case to DTH signals are distorted when they pass through clouds specially when its raining
But does the signal vary from area to area?
I think distance is not the significant factor but the position of dish is more significant. The dish fitted on terrace will receive more efficiently than a dish fitted in a balcony

In the last 4 years, I have lost TS signals exactly 5 times in about 60 rainy sessions (mild to moderate to heavy) and in each case the loss did not last more than 10 minutes, 5 minute being the average. In two instances, only audio was present with zero signal quality but reasonable strength around 50%. I have observed that a mild drizzle is more likely to cause loss of signal than a heavy shower.On the bright side, I have not lost a single minute of TS when there is no electricity (inverter backup). Normally power failure is a common occurrence with rain.My viewing is limited to about 2 hours per day in the evening; I rely more on the TS+ recording feature to time shift program viewing and save 25 to 40% of viewing time by skipping commercials, titles, and dull sections.
