lol. tbh, his point is valid. retailers with low profit margin do suffer from visa and mastercard usage. here in gurgaon, i am yet to come across any shopkeeper who is not accepting visa or mastercard but is accepting rupay. upi of course makes sense because of zero transaction costs which means it is used even by thelas. they are not going to carry card machines anytime sooner because of the cost of the device and other fees.
one chemist here does not outright refuse to take card payments but does say it would be nicer if you just use upi. i try to use cash as much as possible but because of change problem, it does not always work out. it's crazy that we still do not have a 1000 rupee note. they have played the long game well and have made people used to paying through upi. it would all come back to bite us all in the coming years.
i really do not like paying for 10 rupee ciggies using upi. every transaction is an entry in my bank statement which i have to deal with at the time of making my balance sheet. this is why i am back to using Paytm wallet for smaller transactions as thankfully paytm still remains widely accepted in my locality.
