So if big tv is all set to broadcast 5 HD channels, why dont they provide the proper STB which supports HD format. Are they so dumb ? Cant be !

One question. Are there any Indian channels which can broadcast in HD format currently? Otherwise what is the use of Reliance having Indian HD channels when the original broadcast is only in SD?

If this news is accurate then my best guess is the National Geographic would be one or two of the HD channels. News HD channels make no sense.

Ideally we would get movie channels in HD. But then again this isn't an ideal world.

HD STBs cost a lot more, more than 6-7K if you want good ones.
Obviously Reliance will subsidize them.
Anyways theres a simple answer to your question:
Only ppl who want to receive HD transmission will spend that much money to buy the expensive STBs.
Most ppl in India I believe don't have High Definition TVs, without which there is no point in getting a HD STB.
So simply they will only sell HD STBs to ppl who have a HD TV and want to receive and watch HD transmission, like me I have a 46 inch X series Sony LCD but I live in Qatar and hope that Big TV is viewable here.

9x news is produced in HD, the only thing now is that they should broadcast in HD.
Otherwise I do not think there is anything else in HD, wait I forgot, the new Mahabarat (sorry for incorrect spelling, if applicable) is also produced in HD.
Im sure, guranteed that National Geo will be available in HD, they already hve the HD channel on the satellite, just not viewable by BIG TV viewers.
Also we hope that ESPN-STAR will also produce content in HD because ESPN is owned by Rupert Murdoch, the billionaire from USA, and owner of major channels in USA (which all broadcast in HD) so I am guessing he will want to capture the audiences in India too.

Whats the big deal. We have known that Big Tv is HD Ready is 720i and Full HD is 1080i, DVD is 570p.
So stop getting so excited about everything you find out from the Customer Care and then posting a new thread about it.
I can see that you are crearly misinformed on HD side. HD ready is 720p (not i) and full HD is 1080p (not i). you do understand the difference between p and i. If not let us know. And yes I am excited because I use my HDTV by playing on XBOX 360, PS3 and depend on internet to download HD content it would be great to see it live on TV.

Subscribers will need a different STB and have to pay special rates for the HD channels. For Sky TV UK, HD STB is about 150 pound Sterling, whereas standard STB is given free.

sorry i made a mistake but that still does not cover for stupid imature behaiviour you are displaying.
It has been known that Big TV is also going to have HD channels for about 5-6 months.
I also have a HDTV, its a 46 inch Sony Xseries Full HD.
The point is not whether or not I know the difference between p and i its about the fact what you noobs do on these forums, getting all excited about NOTHING.

I have seen relaiance STB and it features component output that means no need to buy specialized HD STB like with other services DirectTv and Dish Network (US).

Great news enjoy.
And now that you are going around correcting others:
Having component output does not automatically mean that it will give an output with HD resolution.
The STB has to be able to descramble and process HD content. And lets for one unworldly moment believe that just because a component output does mean HD output why haven't Direct TV and Dish network (USA) been able to figure this out, they have been beaming HD for 2-3 years, why do they still give specialized HD STB, get your facts right. A simple look in the manual of a STB can confirm what max. resolution output it can give.
The current STBs can only give 720×576 (PAL) not sure about if it can give an output of NTSC.

Hey man I am excited and so does every body else. You look like you are greeting enough HD content (I hope so). This is forum for these type of discussions. If you dont understand this go get yourself a life . you should be banned form the forum for illicit behavior. Second thing I never said that that STB will handle HD I said may be. Ok so get it. Read it completely. That was just my speculation seeing the existing setup by Tata Sky and Dish TV
