Sammy is probably paying Jio to counter the barrage of substandard Chinese phones that have hit the market (LYF included) and to push their Make for India campaign.
 
As much as I hate Chinese, I also hate Koreans too.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge costs 55k and upwards.
Le Eco Le Max 2 costs 23k and has better hardware specs compared to S7 except it's non waterproof and no SAMOLED display like S7 but same resolution.

I would be able to sell this Le Max 2 for 7-8k by next year and get a next model if they stop giving software updates. Samsung will give software updates for 2 years. But then I am stuck with slow update cycle and a same phone which will look dull compared to next year's Galaxy S8.

So buying top-end Chinese phone for a price between 20-25k is most practical instead of spending 55k ever 2 years over top-end Samsung. Simple maths.
Next year, it would be hard to get even 30k as a second hand price for the S7.

I am not interested in any phones like J1, J2, A1, A2, A5 which masquerade as top-end but have midrange or lo-end specs. Snapdragon 820 or bust.
 
Call up jio care, they'll check your imei to see eligibility. They told me my Galaxy Alpha (non-indian version) which was more than a year old is not eligibile.:(
