Reliance may have HDTV Channels

Yes yes... When will we get a definite answer on whether or not there will be HD channels?

Why reliance and other DTH service providers do not announce their plans or give an indication of launch date etc. in advance. Auto manufactures indicate when a new model will be launched. Microsoft announces years ahead. Only variable not in their control is successful satellite launch.

I dont think Reliance DTH can offer the HDTV at a damm low price tag, coz in the west only few of the channels(20) are only available in HD format. It is considered bit costly also in west. At least 30 USD$ for 5 channels. And if you need to view HDTV format, you need to buy a HD Television set. That would cost you atleat 35,000 Rupees here. Clubbing all of them, I dont think HDTV is going to work in India.

Full HD tv cost around 5 lakhs rupees, other cheap are only HD ready, can receive HD signal but cannot display it.

There are several FTA HD channels afaik..Reliance can provide them and get a additional tick in check boxes..But it remains to be seen if they will actually provide..Again,you can get those 32" 720p(1366*768) videocon/akai are retailing at 35k (or even possibly lower,i hear 31k in some places!)..26" from Philips, samsung are on 30k and still going low..and most of them can downscale 1080p.well,1080p panels are still costly, but lcd panel prices are steadily going down for years. Its only a matter of time until those manufacturers like akai, videocon get their hands on it.. Viewsonic 1080p monitor costs 38k!

You only need an HD Ready TV if your cable/DTH supplies you with the HD Signals. The HD TV with built in tuner is required only if you plan to get OTA HD signals, and we very well know that DD will telecast OTA HD signals probably in year 2072. I know that you can get HDTV (720p/1080i) for less than 30,000..

There is no broadcaster in US that broadcasts in 1080p. All are in 1080i or 720p. SO I do not think that there is any chance of an Indian broadcaster broadcasting in 1080p in the near future. The TV will be useful only if you have a Blu Ray/ HD DVD Player or a PS3 for gaming.
As far as 720p or 1080i are concerned, you can barely tell the difference on 42 inches or lesser
