Rocktek GX1 Streamer

Bought the GX1 from Elecktroniks India via Amazon. It has Google TV (Android TV OS 12) and comes with the G20 Google TV reference design remote. The remote works with earlier Android TV devices too like the Shield TV, though some buttons like the dedicated apps buttons and a few other buttons won't work.

The OS is 32 bit even though the hardware is 64 bit capable.

so is this any good? i do have to replace an aging fire tv at home. though i really do not like the ui of google tv.

Well, so far I liked it. There is the Ugoos Sk2 too with the same chipset and configuration. I like the Android TV interface better than the Google TV interface too but after using it I can see why they went with this. The UI can be totally minimized though by simply going to setting -> account and selecting "apps-only mode".

heh reminds me of the big box app mode on mi devices before they killed that feature and dad had to get used to regular ui on android.

Then this mode will be a good fit. Plus the processor has AI upscaling capabilities so old lower resolution videos will be upscaled to native 4K screen resolution. Another thing I found out later because I didn't check the tiny manual is the remote has infrared for when bluetooth is disconnected.

The LED on the device is bright and its intensity or colour can't be changed out of the box. It was getting a little bit annoying and so I searched and found this.

My shield seems to be on the verge on dying. This seems like a good option when it finally does

Which one, 2015 or 2017? Just do a cleaning of the hardware and reset the OS and it should feel snappy again. I did a reset after the recent update and it feels very much like a new device.

Got a new system update today. Don't have much details on the changes or fixes yet.
