well. everything is fine but i am annoyed by the fact that he highlights the fact that he has designed the site to tarnish MMT's reputation online by using SEO skills. i mean, i blog and post here on the forum to spread the word but i would never actually SAY that i am trying to defame the company on google search results.

MMT can probably file a defamation lawsuit against him for the same. even though his case might be genuine.

there is simply no need to highlight this on the site itself.

Dear operamaniac[/B],

Here's the definition of defamation: the making of false statements that damage another's reputation.

And also from Wikipedia:

Defamation—also called calumny, vilification, traducement, slander (for transitory statements), and libel (for written, broadcast, or otherwise published words)—is the communication of a statement that makes a claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may give an individual, business, product, group, government, or nation a negative image. It is usually a requirement that this claim be false and that the publication is communicated to someone other than the person defamed (the claimant).[1]

In common law jurisdictions, slander refers to a malicious, false,[2][not specific enough to verify] and defamatory spoken statement or report, while libel refers to any other form of communication such as written words or images.[3] Most jurisdictions allow legal actions, civil and/or criminal, to deter various kinds of defamation and retaliate against groundless criticism.

I'm sorry but I can't expect myself to post a desperate word here and there to spread the word when I have the potential to do a lot more and help others in the process.

He wont be news for long...

I have been there long before the news got published on moneylife.in. It just that you are seeing it now. In fact for the last month, the site was hovering around in the 7th place. However, like someone already mentioned, they have full-time SEO team and they'll try to do everything to push me down. But I have no regrets now. I have achieved what I intended to do. Even if I do come up in top 5, I'll have to hire a full-time team or work myself to maintain the position which I have no plans of :)

i hope you realize that indian courts have their own definition of terms and they do not take wikipedia or any dictionary as a reference material. what i was saying was that the site specifically states that it is designed to defame the company. by messing up with their search engine results. i would not recommend mentioning that part. it is pretty obvious and does not help anyone but the lawyers at MMT who can use it as something that can be used to target you (!) with something or the other. i have my own protests online related to airtel fair usage policy. would i like it to do well on search results? yes. would i say that i want it to do specifically that? no. nothing else.

Again you are getting that wrong. SEO is not rigging up with search results. It's just working on to get your site noticed. It's just a wrong mis-conception that people have with SEO. I have just used my SEO skills to get my blog more noticed, nothing more than that.

I agree with your mention on the law here. Even if they were to file a defamation suit against me, I believe I have a strong case with me. And from what I see, filing a defamation suit against me will only do more harm to them than me. Remember, I have a popular blog with me right now. I have nothing to lose and they have everything. I have achieved what I intended to do and what goes from now is just the bonus.

Thanks for your concern.
