Salil Kapoor quits Samsung; joining DishTV as COO

Salil Kapoor is coming on board DishTV as Chief Operating Officer from the first week of July. He will be reporting to Jawahar Goel, Managing Director, DishTV. Kapoor’s last stint was with Samsung India Electronics as Head of Home Appliances for nine months. He had joined Samsung India in February 2007. Informed sources have confirmed the development.
Prior to joining Samsung, Kapoor had spent a year and a half at Microsoft India as Marketing Lead for Consumer Audience Business and Advertising Lead. He began his career with Blue Star and then moved to LGEIL in 1998, where he held various positions. He quit LGEIL in September 2005 as Head of Marketing Services & Brand, and joined Microsoft India.
Kapoor has 18 years of experience in marketing, sales and brand functions. His career highlights include the turnaround of LG’s home appliances business through innovative and aggressive marketing, and scaling up of the AC business to attain clear market leadership. He had a long stint at LG before he moved on to Microsoft to build up the consumer audience business. He has been credited for LG winning the ICICI Technopak Retail Award in the consumer durables category in 2005.
Kapoor is also known for leading the charge of sports marketing (primarily cricket) at LG as Head of Marketing, leading to successfully leverage the association with ICC as global sponsor and also played a pivotal role in initiatives like LG ICC Cricket Ratings and LG’s association with the ICC Cricket Awards.
Both Kapoor and DishTV officials were unavailable for comment at the time of filing this report.
