Samsung head of Mobile Communications JK Shin recently confirmed the release of an 8 inch model of their popular Note lineup of devices.

If this is the same model which we reported on earlier, it will most likely be a direct competitor to the Apple iPad mini.

With a 1.6 GHz quad-core Exynos processor, 2 GB of RAM and 1280 x 800 display, the Note 8.0 will offer better hardware than the iPad mini and it will be most likely priced quite competitively.

We expect to hear more on the Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet at MWC next month, so be sure to check back with us.

Confirmed

Samsung's latest S Pen entry boasts an 8-inch 1,280 x 800 TFT display. That puts it on par with the Note 10.1's resolution, although here users will obviously benefit from a more eye-pleasing pixel density (189ppi) and smaller 210.8mm x 135.9mm x 7.95mm (8.3 x 5.4 x 0.31 inches) footprint. Beneath thatlove it or hate it sealed plastic chassis, lies the company's Exynos 4 Quad processor clocked at 1.6GHz and paired with 2GB RAM, radios for WiFi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, GLONASS and HSPA+ 21 (850/900/1900/2100MHz), up to 32GB of internal storage (microSD expansion available), in addition to a 4,600mAh battery.

I just read the CNET review of this tablet. It says:
First thoughts
As an 8-inch tablet, it'll compete directly with the 7.9-inch iPad Mini. If I can stifle the cynical part of my brain for a minute, I'd say the success of the iPad Mini can be directly attributed to its size, weight, and app offerings. Samsung seems to have delivered on the former two with the Note 8, but is unfortunately still reliant on the Google Play store for the latter. While the store continues to improve its offerings every day, it's still nowhere near as compelling as Apple's App Store.
Samsung has yet to announce a price, and the company isn't in the habit of aggressively pricing its premium tablets, and that likely won't change anytime soon. With an SD card slot, a home button, and native Jelly Bean support, the Note 8 offers a compelling package. Also, its S-Pen stylus offers a level of functionality the iPad can't match, and those looking for a highly functional electronic daily planner will want to give it a serious look. Just don't expect the same level of app support you'd find on the iPad Mini.
Look for the Note 8 to launch worldwide sometime in the second quarter of 2013.
New and refined options
If you're at all familiar with the Galaxy Note 10.1, the Note 8's software suite won't surprise you. S Note makes a return and there's some new functionality with Flipboard where hovering the S-Pen over tiles delivers headline previews. Samsung claims it also has a one-year Android exclusive with Awesome Note, a feature-rich list-making app.
While the Note 10.1 only supported dual-screen functionality with six different apps, Samsung has now increases support to many more. Also, its "reading mode" feature optimizes the display's contrast to be more appropriate for e-book reading.

Early Buzz
It’s a simple, elegant design with really smooth edges and corners. The Note 8 feels to be made of the same stuff as the Note 10.1, with a bit more metal thrown in for durability sake. With an SD card slot, a home button, and native Jelly Bean support, the Note 8 offers a compelling package. Also, its S-Pen stylus offers a level of functionality the iPad can’t match, and those looking for a highly functional electronic daily planner will want to give it a serious look. Just don’t expect the same level of app support you’d find on the iPad Mini. – CNET
If you’ve spent any amount of time with the Note II, you’ll know what to expect from the Note 8.0… But where the Note 8.0 strays is one of its key improvements: users can now effect the capacitive menu and back buttons using the S Pen. Admittedly, it takes a bit of retraining to get used to — you’ll want to use your finger out of habit — but it’s a wonder Samsung took so long to implement something so crucial… – Engadget
Performance was impressive, but one thing to note is that the 5-megapixel rear camera is next to useless. Then again, using the Note 8.0 as a camera is about as comfortable as attempting to make a phone call on it. – BGR
The Note 8 is exceedingly comfortable to hold, though its plastic body doesn’t have the solid feel of iPad Mini, Nexus 7, and Kindle Fire HD. The bezel is larger than the iPad Mini’s by a good amount, but feels smaller than the Kindle Fire HD’s. It feels like a good compromise between the two. – Gizmodo

Can you try to keep the font consistent? :P I hate that IPB does not offer the toolbar in basic editor. And the GUI editor would not clean up the formatting when copying from third party sources. :D
