From the leaks, it looks like they are trying to make the back-side of S23 lineup looklike S22 ultra.
The camera contour, starting from S21; is probably the most eye-catching feature for me. Now this is nothing but ugly.

But the non bulged camera rings makes it a lot worse. There should have stuck with the S21 designs.

I read somewhere that Samsung refresh design every 3 years. For 2021 they decided to have camera island, and all model had some sort of camera island in 2021 and 2022 which included S series as well as low cost A series. From 2023 they are going back to camera holes on back instead of island.
Not sure how designs are finalized, but there could be some reason for that.
