This kind of solution would be very effective to the upper-middle class and rich people who don't give a s*** to the problem faced by the city due to their negligence :impissed:.Many of them don't even turn off their lights, fans (in some cases TV and AC's too) when they leave their home.I'm damn sure that these people don't even know the difference in the wattage of a fan and an AC :ishock:.

i called the call centers. they said there is an option of using same meter or get new tata power meter (free) or get your own meter.

they will use same wires of reliance and there will be wheeling charges. these charges are for delivery of power using other companies wires. so cost is tata power charges less tata power wheeling charges + reliance wheeling charges.

One thing I did not understand is that there are some charges which are applied between 6 am to 9 am then slab changes from 9 am to 12 pm then 12- 6 pm and then 6 pm to 9 pm and some negative charges from 10 pm to 6 am... whats all that? are meters equiped to detect what time how much current is used? and why negative charges at night?

Negative charges means they will give you money for using their power?

compare that to my situation. i had to invest in three inverters for my place just because of the insane power supply we get here in gurgaon. the bill we get is so freaking inflated... i have no way to see if i am being billed correctly.

You don't see your meter reading every month by yourself?

dude. i am not talking about wasting power. i switched from desktop to laptop and CRT to LCD to save power at my place. i live in the basement coz it saves me money indirectly... basements are cool in summers and not so cold in winters. i try to do what i can to save money and power. as for meters... dude. you cannot rely on them. they use their own meters. we cannot use our own.

Buy a clamp multimeter and measure the wattage and cross check with the meter reading.

i think they are providing a software interface to get usage data from compatible meters.

----------

i guess the meters are using some kind of an embedded OS that can provide usage data... i do not have much info on that. :)

And that 'compatible meter' has to be provided by the electricity distributor itself if it doesn't want to face any embarrassment. So that defies the entire purpose!
