Should I dump TataSky HD for Airtel HD or should I wait for some more time

They haven't caught up with ts for quite a few years now. Whatever you do, take something else but not adtv.

If the competitor airtel offers channels which are indispensable but not available in ts, then where is the need to agonise over choice? move as soon as possible.

x70, can you elaborate what the issues are with ADTV? Every service will have some customer service issue. I want to understand if it is widespread and limited to specific customer/region.For the cusrtomer service is important wrt: STB /dish misalignment/dish receiver issue issues. I have faced this in TS and they corrected/replaced STB in quick turnaround time. They didn't charge anything for these. I know Sun DTH can not be trusted for these. What about ADTV?

As long as the installation is fine and it doesn't keep going off every other day, I don't see the need to call customer care. That customer care is good in TS is absolutely an useless point as the only thing they are good at is speaking politely. That doesn't necessarily solve the problem. I have been complaining to them about the insufficient number of music channels for 5+ years now. Hasn't made them add new ones! Customer service is over-rated. What matters is the quality of the product. So if the quality of ADTV, and their installation is good, there shouldn't be any reason to repent.

The issues I face might be region specific. The set box has developed faults multiple times, and each time they took a long time to replace it, apart from that the selfcare portal, when I tried switching my base package, the new one got activated and old one wasn't deactivated, I ended paying for both, as their portal wouldnt remove the old one for a week. Another thing, adding new channels is a pain, with the portal showing "technical error" 9 out of 10 times. And for every service request , they turn up at the wrong address, because somewhere down the line my address in their system got changed :|That said, I rarely watch tv per se, and content doesn't matter to me, but in terms of the stuff I've mentioned above, ts is miles ahead of adtv.I might be plain unlucky, and if you're willing to take the gamble with adtv, go ahead, but have a look at what the other players (zee, videocon and reliance offer) , though I have no idea about their service.Another thing, picture quality is one ting where I have no complains with AirTel.

I can share some details. I used to have a TS HD as primary and an Airtel SD for my 2nd TV. I have had the Airtel for 3 years. During this time I did not face any technical issue. I did face a couple of maybe a year back with channel addition, but in the recent past that has also worked well.

My need was a lot of malayalam channels. Which TS did not have and I dont expect them to add even after their space issues are resolved(They have a large number of channels to add anyways). Hence I changed my primary connection also to Airtel HD once my annual pack subscription was over.

I was not unhappy in anyway with TS. Their business direction on channel addition did not meet what I expected. So I moved :tennis:

BTW I did check with customer care on if it was possible in the future if I need to reactivate the TS. They said no issues with that (maybe a reactivation fee will apply)

Thanks for all your valuable reply guys!

@Jaymin:
Cool it buddy :)
1) I have not decided to go to airtel yet . that's the reason I am posting my frustration here. Also want feedback on ADTV so that I am well prepared for any shortcomings in it than TS
2) Its not about single channel: TS has 8 HD channels vs 14 in ADTV. TS has only 11 Tamil channels vs 20 in ADTV. What's the point is sticking to a provider just for service when they don't have the content? Content is the King!
3) You are talking about coming back to TS from ADTV after dec 2012... why should I unless there is something is 'totally' wrong with ADTV? I am sure ADTV will soon catch up TS on service front.. they can do better for DSL why not for DTH segment....
4) Even Dec 2012 is only speculation different forums. Their CC don't even bother to answer any tentative data for adding channels or just say directly they don't have plans to add channels...

Oh well, i m pretty cool! :D

I just wanted to highlight that at times, people repent after moving on. Few months back we had a member who shifted to D2h coz D2h exclusively had ESPN HD. Few months down the line, TS also added it. So the very base on which he moved became void! Next he hated certain nagging things of D2h, and kept complaining about it. So i just want to tell u that may be few months down the line if TS adds more channels (I too really dont know when!) and suppose u r on Airtel at that time, u might start noticing the down sides of Airtel & feel that u shud go back to TS.

I m on D2h, and m livid over the fact that they keep removing useful channels at the cost of adding some new channels - agreed there is demand for the new channels, but then theres an equal demand for the existing channels! But why m i still persisting? With the hope that they will be increasing their capacity in the near future, and then i will miss the customer support i get from them.

Their TAT is really good. Sometimes u do need to show them the fear of TRAI, but ultimately ur issue does get resolved. Thats y i m still sticking to it.
