I wud like few more people to confirm, if antenna of USB modem is better than that of phones?I doubt it, because I think signal receiver chips are separate then processors.Plus antenna is not so costly that mobile phone manufacturers wud try to compromise on that.

No one has actually done a lab testing on this issue.
But my crude testing has me convinced beyond doubt that my 3G modem performs better than my 2 mobile phones at the same spot.
I believe this must be just a coincidence.
I dont believe that antenna used in mobile wud be weaker than one in USB modem. If that was true then it wud be a HOT TOPIC on internet and well known issue in tech forums and we shud have found good amount of claims on such a thing. i.e search on google wud have given good results

It is not a hot topic because most people prefer 3G dongle over mobile for better portability and it is slightly lesser hassle to plug in a modem. When it ultimately comes down to choice, I always carry 3G dongle when I am off to Pune for work. I can't be bothered to mess around with cables and such. Plus my earlier dongle K4505 has managed 5.5Mbps on BSNL roaming where all iPhones and HTC Desires managed a poor 3Mbps. If you tether your phone wirelessly, battery drain is a huge problem.Google is not always right. Let your instincts do a search sometimes.

uh, In most western countries the relative cost of broadband/3G is much lower than India. Because of this not a lot of people use 3G as their primary internet connections(very few operators offer unlimited 3G at reasonable rates unlike MTNL/BSNL here). that could explain the lack of posts regarding dongles.

Even with lack of internet, I dont find a single post. Atleast one person wud be there. (except sanke ofcourse

That wud otherwise be huge PLUS point.All these makes me believe that antennas are mostly of same quality.
