Smartphone for around 10k

Friend is looking to buy one. Primary requirements are whatsapp and mail. He seems to be inclined towards canvas2 and xperia e. I suggested lumia 520.What say peeps?Brick-and-mortar only.

Actually it runs in background in wp. But the way it runs is poor. It runs through media player. So that sucks. Also lot of GUI needs to be made,.

Micromax and Karboon dont have good service centre. What about HTC?
Does Windows phone has hotspot or tethering?

You did not specifically say that he needs a smartphone. You said focus is on email and whatsapp!
I guess the options are quite restrictive in the smartphone category. If Whatsapp can work properly on WP8, Lumia is a better choice indeed.

No input from me but just a suggestion : Android works great only with great hardware. A dual core processor is necessary with decent amount of RAM.So,even if you have to shed some extra bucks.. dont cheap out on an Android device.I got a SII two years back and i'm still using it..can be used for atleast a year more.

From the whatsapp listing on the WP store. Can anyone confirm this? The not being able to send audio video part.
