The main reason behind this to vacate 700MHz band which is used by doordarshan and it is far more sufficient for 4G LTE technology...So can govt put auction on 700MHz band...Cant wait to enjoy 4G on 700MHz band

So basically it is not for the welfare of the people or to improve the quality of service but to make money from selling that spectrum. Gotcha.

In an ideal scenario, I would like TV manufacturers to incorporate STB hardware into the TV sets itself. Should support both DTH and cable. They should have a slot for viewing card.
There is small disadvantage in this. First it will add unnecessary hardware in TV, which will increase cost of TV. Means if I am sure that I would be using only Satellite connection, why would I want Cable receiver as well inside TV.
And STB tend to get faulty more compared to TV due to its component like Tuner, processor. So if STB part goes faulty, we would need to send whole TV to service centre. So its better to have STB separate from TV :)

1. So that you can port between cable and DTH without changing your TV. I would also like the manufacturers to include hardware to support IPTV also.
2. Which companies manufacture STBs? Tata Sky or Airtel or Hathway do not. Mostly chinese manufacturers. Except for Cisco, I had never heard any othe manufacturer's name apart from the STBs. I would rather have a Sony or LG or Panasonic make that component for me, which I am sure would be of much much better quality than the STB.
