Thinking very strongly of buying an SSD. My primary dealer (STech Computers) does not even stock them yet - he asked me to check back next week.

These are the quotes I got from Sujata Computers in Pune this morning - they stock only the Intel X25 series (not the best, but really good enough AFAIK). These are the G2 models with TRIM support which is important.
SSDSA2MH080G2C1 - (080GB) - 14,500
SSDSA2MH160G2C1 - (160GB) - 27,000 (NewEgg)

So the 160GB model is approximately $600, approximately $160 more than the price in the US. Has anyone come across better deals? Is it cheaper in Bombay?

i think vishal rao has a SSD he got from UK.

i believe folks are getting the intel 80gb G2 for about rs 12.5 k from prime abgb mumbai....i prefer my crucial m225 model and got a 128gb one, and want another 64gb one! (dont mind getting it locally at slightly higher price)...in addition to TRIM it has GC so works smooth with linux which does not yet have good TRIM support :Dwe should ask STech to stock the IndiLinx based models... 64 gb should sell like hotcakes (relatively speaking)....edit: if i get it for abotu rs 10k i'll be happy... else will try to get it from abroad...

Intel is great if you're just on Windows... for me IndiLinx is better for the reasons posted above (GC basically)... you are aware, right, that Intel's write speeds are dismally slow but random access is the best? Overall I would say current "2nd gen" disks I prefer the IndiLinx based ones...Now in a year's time (maybe by end of this year) when SATA 6gbps is common we will see cheaper/faaaaster SSDs...BTW, Micron (Crucial brand) and Intel have tied up to manufacture the flash chips just that Intel makes its own controller tech and Micron currently uses thirdparty ones... so personally I want to stick to the Crucial models myself :DTranscend I would avoid - just a hunch I dont have concrete reasons why!Prime should give better prices in person compared to what is on their site... just tell them a friend pointed you to the store for best prices :)

Will give prime a call and see if they reduce further or drop in when / if I go there. Though it seems like no matter what options are available internationally - if I want to buy something here, I will have to settle for an Intel piece?

yep, doesnt look like other options available... unless you find some online sites that ship to india....?
