Hey guys, I'm fairly new to this forum. I need your help. I've read all the stickies on how to increase your torrent speeds and how to port forward but I just can't do it. Mainly because I don't want my network to crash.

I'm fairly computer, internet and network literate so I should pick it up really fast.

Alright enough of the Intro...

My MTNL connection goes through a modem onto a wireless router and then onto 3 Laptops(Wi-Fi) and a Desktop(Wired).

ADSL Modem: UT-300R2U
Wireless Router: Netgear WGR614 V6

Now, while using a torrent software I never get the green light, always the yellow one and I want to be able to use all of my speed. So, from what I have read, I think I need to get off the DHCP and Assign fixed IP's to all my 4 computers. I then need to port forward my Bit Torrent ports to the computer I use to download. Right?

Can someone help me out with this? You don't need to write it out here and frankly I would understand it a bit better if I was able to speak to you so If you can help me out please let me know.

I've tried reading tutorials on 4-5 websites and now I'm just a bit :wall: and scared that I'm gonna crash my internet and I don't wanna do that.

Thanks in advance.

well a few extra info such as who makes the PPPoE connection to connect to the net? UT-300R2U / Netgear WGR614 V6 / your computer.... will help us a lot....

Also is your computer firewall turned on??

hey 11slash11,I used to have the same problem but essbebe is right. I just got the modem attached to the comp working first with port forwarding and then attached my wifi network to that and it worked from there. The other thing you could do is make sure that you give an option to let the computer ip (fixed) access any port in the virtual server option on your modem's config page. This is fairly easy to do.Just go to 192.168.1.1 click on advanced ---> virtual server--->in private ip type in ur comp's ip (fixed) and leave everything else as it is and save and reset. It should work with that. Then attach your wifi modem and link to the comp you have just set up and do the same for all other ip's.Cheers

Hey, thanks for replying so fast.

Kingpin - My phone line connects to my ADSL Modem which then connects to my Wireless Router which then connects to my computer. So I guess my modem makes the PPPoE connection to the net. My computer firewall is not turned on as I use my desktop for File and Printer Sharing.

essbebe - I've already read those tutorials and have been stuck confused. :wall::confused:

drmulchandani - After I'm able to get it off the DHCP and get it Port Forwarded I will surely do that.

In the mean time, can you guys help me out with how to get off the DHCP and then Port Forward it?

I will probably understand it better if I could call you and talk to you over the phone. If it's possible for you to help me out this way let me know.

Thanks once again guys.

i had a similar setup before.. what i used to do is.. disable dhcp in the wifi router.. enable dhcp in the bsnl modem.. so the bsnl modem will give you ips..also ppoe is enabled in bsnl modem..then i used portforwarding in both.. i.e. suppose i get an ip 192.168.1.5 from my modem.. in the wifi router's port forwarding menu i open ports to 192.168.1.5 and i do the same thing in the bsnl modem's port forwarding menu...
