Vodafone offers 24hrs unlimited internet browsing for just 19Rs. This option is only available in Chennai. I took a 19rs recharge and have EDGE support in my SE-810i phone. But speeds was pathetic at 1.5kbps. It is taking light years for pages to be seen in browser. I doubted it is an issue with my pc-phone data cable connection and checked the speed of net in phone itself. It isn't any better. Is any body using it ? What are the speeds you are getting ?
I called up customer to ask about the speed of this connection. They tell speed is 120 kbps. Although I don't expect that dream speed, I am expecting at least a 10 kbps. I have already downloaded a setting by sending WWW to 52586. Is there any special setting to downloaded for getting EDGE speeds ?
Or is 1.5kbps the maximum speed i can get from Vodafone in Chennai ?
the problem is with ur phone ..which is not "EDGE supported" as far as i could find it out atleast K810 is not EDGE supported !!
It is very irritating to see that
Sony Ericsson never specifies full technical specifications anywhere,(perhaps they think they can fool people easily that way).
anywhere these are 3 place i found that SE-810i does not support EDGE specially the first one where it is mentioned in disadvantage of this phone.

now u will have to understand that GPRS is different from EGPRS (also called EDGE), and they have different classes in which the supported download and upload speed varies. while GPRS can support upto 56-114kbits/s,but ur phone,SE-810i supports class 10 means speeds upto 32-48 kbits/s= 4-6 kbytes/s, so u are getting about 1.5 Kbytes/s. which is alright in real world conditions.
EDGE can support speeds upto 236.8 kbits/s, and any phone supporting EDGE with class 11 or above will get such a speed theoritically.(like
Nokia N and E series phones). So u can get speeds of 28 kbytes/s. I used to get about 20-22 kbytes/s with airtel mobileoffice during the night or in early morning ..otherwise it was around 10-11 kbytes/s all the the time ....
but airtel removed the unlimited internet ...so looking for alternatives
