Speeds through wireless router is 50% of what I get directly

And I am not even on a 100mbps connection. If I connect directly, I am getting ~ 3.6mbps. Through router I am barely crossing 2.0mbps. This has happened before but corrected itself. And it started happening again today. Just wondering if there is anything I can check.

i found a similar situation when a modem/router is used.

Switched from Mi Router to old Buffalo Router. Seems to have worked for the time being. Lack of 802.11ac is a pain in the ass.

I am using ethernet cable on the desktop.

fml. realized last night when i was going to sleep that this could have been to qos settings on the modem. i keep on setting the priority on the pi which means my desktop does not get priority bandwidth. disabled it and it seems to be fine now. would keep an eye on it.
