We wudnt pick up boxes. But we surely wud pick up addons for such events. Just like i picked up the addon for this series. I didnt bother even though they said "3 months lockin is applicable".Otherwise whatever is unrecovered, always has to be offset against their margins. they cant charge it from other channels. How many times have u seen price rises in the past? I havent seen any price rise in D2h atleast since the time i was planning to buy it - thats mid-October.Or take the recent example......Ten Cricket HD was a total failure due to the nature of series in WI. Did u see any price rises with those DTH players recover the loss, by way of increasing prices?

They have to take the loss. And where if margins are in many millions, then a loss of few millions or cant pinch them much.And about F1/EPL......i havent seen that ever even though i am having ESPN HD. I think Mascot wud give reply on this.

I guess No Sports Channel can dare to show Ad in between f1 and EPL. I watched f1 from 13th Lap, moment before Lewis Hamilton Car get crashed and till the end not a single Ad. Also in EPL too No Adv in between . Enjoyed MAU Vs Arsenal Ad free . Thats why I always say ESPN HD is worth paid . The variety of sports specially Xtreme sports are just awesome. and wating f1 was simply superb . May be bcoz I would be watching for 1st time in HD bt not gonna miss the thrill again on 11th September

well even though all these DTH people are cash-rich folks, I dont see reason why they continuously bear losses just to gain traction. That makes this a pretty non-lucrative business model for a fair amount of time. Even Mobile Phone firms did not ever start with such huge albatrosses around their neck. And this is not a given like basic GSM which still kicks more ass from a point of view of the general public than DTH. No chuck it.. maybe I am making unfair comparisons. Let me think of a more credible reason, till then this out there as an appetiser!

Congratulations guys, Now ESPN HD too is no more Ad Free Channel. Maruti Swift Ad was shown in the end of todays friendly Match at Kolkata.The only thing We can pray is let the Adv be limited to middle or end of matches only.

ads are directly proportional to quality of content. isnt it? Stands the reason that a cricket match is a better advertising platform than an EPL match and what better if you dont pay a single penny since you are advertising yourself.

oh and btw... lest you misread between the lines... lemme clarify here. I just said more ads are shown during a high TRP broadcast and earlier said ads are being shown to recover the remaining costs incurred to bring that content to you. I hope you agree that both statements dont really contradict each other. 1 talks about the placement of the ads and the other about why they need the revenue.
