Star Cricket to air LG ICC Awards on September 11

Star Cricket will screen the LG ICC Awards on September 11 at 7 pm. The fifth edition of the awards will be presented in association with FICA and will take into account performances by players and officials in the period between August 9, 2007 and August 12, 2008.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain will host the LG ICC Awards at a glittering ceremony in Dubai. ESPN Star Sports' Alan Wilkins will work with Hussain during the evening as a reporter and interviewer, capturing the flavour of cricket's night of nights when the world's leading performers are recognised and honoured.

The LG ICC Awards is now in its fifth year but this is the first time the ceremony has taken place in the United Arab Emirates, the home of the ICC. The event will be broadcast all over the world, touching approximately 100 countries and territories.

The award has nine categories which include cricketer of the year, test player of the year, ODI players of the year, emerging player of the year, associate player of the year, Twenty20 International performance of the year, women's player of the year, spirit of cricket, and umpire of the year.

Nominations for the award includes Shivnarine Chanderpaul (WI), Dale Steyn (RSA), Mahela Jayawardene (SL) and Graeme Smith (RSA) as contenders for Cricketer of the year award, while Shivnarine Chanderpaul (WI), Dale Steyn (RSA), Mahela Jayawardene (SL) and Jacques Kallis (RSA) have been nominated for test player of the year award.

ODI player of the year category has Nathan Bracken (AUS), Mahendra Singh Dhoni (IND), Sachin Tendulkar (IND) and Mohammad Yousuf (PAK) as the nominated players. Stuart Broad (ENG), Ajantha Mendis (SL), Ishant Sharma (IND) and Morne Morkel (RSA) have been nominated under the emerging player of the year category.

Associate player of the year awards has Ryan ten Doeschate (NED), Alex Obanda (KEN), Niall O'Brien (IRL) and Thomas Odoyo (KEN) as its candidates. Chris Gayle (WI), Mahendra Singh Dhoni (IND), Brett Lee (AUS) and Yuvraj Singh (IND) are the nominees for Twenty20 International performance of the year.

Women's player of the year awards has Lisa Sthalekar (AUS), Charlotte Edwards (ENG), Claire Taylor (ENG) and Nicola Browne (NZL) as its candidates. Spirit of Cricket awards has countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and West Indies as its nominees.
