majority of users would land on the SOPA message page. i do not see how a complete blockage is more effective.

it's not like they are just showing the message on first load and it disappears on subsequent loads.

If people can land at Wikipedia for information, they can even find information about workarounds. They'll apply the workaround and forget about SOPA.

You won't believe this, at my office, a guy from Admin department came to show me the Javascript workaround. I asked him how did he find it, he said he just Googled it.

so we cant protest against the law? and isnt the sibal bill extending the censorship to non .in domains?obviously SOPA is bad, and hopefully it wont pass, but if it doesnt pass and the the indians still get web censorship, it'd just as bad. it'd be bad just for us indians.there are already hundreds of petitions/protests against SOPA,...

.in domains dont have Private WHO IS for that past few years.Remember when China removed the Private WHO IS on its .cn domains India followed suit.Sadly it didnt get reported anywhere and many people who own .in domains dont know its restrictions.The same rules apply why virtually no one wants to host their site in India.

and you think if wikipedia had blocked access to the content completely, your IT guy would not have discovered wikipedia clones available all over the web? or the cached feature of google/bing? maybe google should have disabled the cached pages for wikipedia too to make the block even more effective?

You can do with an irritating popup banner. @$$e$ like me would block it, the others would at least read about it. Better than taking off the website as it won't serve any purpose
