For almost a month now, i have been getting some unsolicited commercial messages on my mobile from a web address http://10.11.233.29/vodafone/9414/game.php3 and some variants. My SE phone shows this message with a symbol that i have not seen earlier. This is a standard envelope with a globe on it. I could perhaps interpret that as a "web message" or maybe it is just plain old email but i really don't know. This is irritating. I registered in DND again, though i was already in DND from Hutch times.

Does anyone know what these messages are and whether they can be blocked on the phone locally?

This is a standard envelope with a globe on it. ?

Might be a MMS sent to your phone.
Also Txt files transferred vvia bluetooth from my Nokia N72 to Nokia 7710
also have the same symbol that you mentioned above

Here is a followup. Vodafone helpline says it will take 40 days for dnd to get activated!! But on looking at the Minibrowser links given in the message, it seems like spam. They are some chargeable Phillum downloads but apparently not from vodafone live site!! But again I wonder how they will deduct cash if vodafone does not do it themselves!! I will forward these messages to their office just get details. A google search took me through a chain of links on my pc to a mexican site!! The trail became cold after that. A related question: What is meant by enable /disable "push" option in a mobile phone? Will it help if I put my sim card in a phone with push disabled?

Disabling push messages on your mobile seems good, but it blocks valid messages from Vodafone too. Also disable anonymous adverts, which u should be able to find under MMS settings.

vodafone sends push messages? i never got any.

i used to get many before but since the past 1 month it has stopped without my intervention
