Suggest a 2T Non-Inverter AC for top floor room

Hello,

I need to buy new AC for 190 sqft room top floor (sun directly hits the roof). So I know I need at least 2 Ton, but confusion is many people says that few brands 1.5 Ton AC's cooling is equivalent to 2 Ton in the other. So which brand I need and what tonnage?

A bit history on why I want new AC.
My first AC was 1.5 ton Voltas non inverter, It ran good the first year but cooling reduced from next year.
Many technicians have visited only to tell me that my AC is running perfectly. God knows what happened. But it won't chill the room as it used to do before and the compressor continues to run and room temp goes down but very slow. After so many diagnostics I came to a conclusion that because the unit was not vacuumed at install time, it's cooling efficiency was reduced but all technicians deny this fact. But I don't want to waste anymore time and money on this, I would rather buy new. My current AC already 5 years old now but this problem started happening since 2020, I bought it in 2019. In a nutshell I want to avoid this voltas brand all together.

Back to where we were, this post is about which brand's AC is must buy and what tonnage do I need 1.5 or 2 and it's cooling capacity, I want non inverter only.

Regards!

Technician came again, this time he opened the outdoor unit, I'm kind of surprised to find GMCC made compressor in o general ac. I thought, being a Japanese brand they would use their own brand compressor.
So basically Chinese compressor is being used in o general, it looked solid though.

Anyway, he vacuumed the machine again, this time for 45 minutes, but grill temperature instead of decreasing it got increased instead. Now 15-16 even at night time (before 12.5). I guess this gas lock system which he used reduced some gas in the system. That's the only explanation.

At this point, I'm hoping to get outdoor unit replacement, if possible.

I’m going to say it clearly and I am sure many other members would want to say the same.

You should have gone with a 2T unit. We all recommended it for a reason. Having said that, the summers this time around is brutal. I have not experienced winds this warm at 8 PM, so if a 1.5T unit is failing. It’s not just about vacuuming.

I would very much like to be corrected here. 🤷

@Ajay15 new thread for your issue will be better.

you cannot fix it yourself. Call technician he will check and weld the leaking area and refill gas.

Also clean your ac air filters, in rare case if there is too much dust accumulation it can cause ice formation issue.

@Jonas you are correct. Also your experience with summers this season is also true. The extremities can easily overwhelm any AC for that matter so we need to consider that as well.

@alpha1980 I had my aunt visit to my house and they were describing a similar situation as yours. To deal with the heat, they did a false ceiling, green cloth and lots of small plants with regular watering. The water in the pots helped to keep the terrace cool. They said it easily helped to reduce the temps by 10-12C for summers which usually average around 45-47C in central India. Earlier they had AC's but now they have switched to desert coolers for health reasons.
Something you can give it a try.

@Jonas You might be right about summer this year. I'm probably overthinking it. And yeah I should've gone for 2 T but no point regretting it now. I have purchased solar reflective paint.

@Tejas01 yeah too much being in ac is sure bad, my usage is around 4-6 hours. Ordered that paint, it just might do the trick.

I finalize everything in the next technician visit, hopefully it's going to be last one.

Too much emphasis on vacuum is being given imo. It's just to remove dust particles and health of compressor in long run.
only recommended in fresh install or while gas refill. Won't make the day n night difference many people here are suggesting.
Don't get it done later as most of these guys lack training so it would do more harm.

Grill temp depends on ac fan speed too. Put the ac fan speed to lowest and make sure ac is running for atleast 1 hour before checking the temperature. Too many factors.
