for 4 years!!!!!!

isnt it too much?

dont think any device will last for 4 years..

I still have SE W800 (close to 7 years old), Nokia N85(3 year old). If SGS was with me, its 2+ years, never changed battery of any phone :)

Phones do stay for long if used carefully!

Xperia Z, should be available by February. LG Optimus G is another decent choice. If you have to buy now, you can consider the HTC One X Plus ~ 37k (overpriced IMO) or the Samsung i747 (~25-27k off ebay, no warranty) - has 2GB of RAM or Note 2 if you are comfortable with the size.

Even though you say that the Nexus 4 is out of your reach, I still suggest you to go for it. An incredible piece and will certainly last long due to Google's support. Even if you have to shell out 5-7K more than the normal price of it, it's still worth the money!

i would suggest for the next wave of devices if your budget is 40K. all the phones in the market today are at least 2-3 months old. looking at how fast android ecosystem is evolving, waiting for 2-3 months for the next generation devices would not hurt. s4 might be 4-5 months away. but as folks mentioned here, Sony is coming up with some exciting models. and LG might finally be able to bring nexus 4 officially to india. if the need is urgent... i guess note 2 is your best bet wrt specifications and expandability.a high end device purchased today should last for four years. but you would eventually end up with a device which no longer get updates. but then we are all used to it with Nokia devices and the first couple of generation of android devices as well.

i still have my first phone nokia 3310 in working condition , but i dont use or cant use it
phones will stay alive longer but the urge to use them wont be , so dont look too far and spend too much
just plan something for 2 years ahead and buy something from current trend and let it become old after two years so u will switch to the latest

who knows wat will happen in 2 years , flexi display , laser keyboard etc etc anything can happen

S3 isnt a magnificent device considering the current trend now , like it was when S2 got released or when Note 1 got released

get something new and something reasonable !!

Actually Custom ROMs can work wonders, even thought SGS had less RAM, it worked really well after couple of years.Would be getting married in 3-4 months and for sure will get poor, would not afford smart phones then :PNexus 4 would be perfect but looking at the availability, I am backing off.I guess I need to wait atleast for the new Sony series atleast. The present phones are a bit old and might get bit outdated after couple of years

Why don't you wait for Jolla\Sailfish? It would be unique. Sailfish is compatible with Android apps with the help of built in Alien Dalvik layer. And it's already available for Nokia N9, N900, N950 etc. They have recently released Saera - SIRI (iPhone) clone. Still on beta. But it works exceptionally well than iphone siri ...

We are Jolla. We are Unlike.

Tizen is samsung's, an another option. But it would take some time ...

lol and sailfish and tizen. just because they would be able to run some (or most) android apps. it does not mean that it is a viable platform. you need an ecosystem. and that is where google, Apple and microsoft have their strengths. why is RIM struggling? why did Nokia went with Microsoft? why is Samsung trying so hard to create their own app and service ecosystem? because you need that. to get people to adopt your ecosystem.
