Suggest me Television + DVD/Blu-ray player

Ok so after 21 years of using, my ONIDA TV is dying.

And I was also planning to buy DVD/Blu-ray player.

I have NEVER bothered to know current trend / technology in TV/player market.

So please answer by assuming that I know nothing about TV/player! :)

Budget and requirements:

Common
  1. Cheap but reliable
  2. 1 year warranty (on-site preferable) but product expected to last a decade!
  3. No brand preference as long as product works well
  4. Any Diwali / Navratri offer that may interest me?
Television
  1. Under 15k
  2. ~ 30 inches (width not more than 25inches)
  3. Should have table stand base
  4. Can be wall mounted
DVD/Blu-ray player:
  1. Under 4k
  2. Should be able to play recent videos codecs
  3. Should be able to play files on USB / pen drive
  4. Smaller the better (Airtel DTH STB has taken lots of space on table)
Questions:
  1. LED tv or we have something better?
  2. To go for HD or not?! Or we have something better than HD?
  3. Does HD also have flavours? Like normal HD / true HD etc.?
  4. Do we get TV cum DVD/Blu-ray player combo? Is it advisabled? Because TV dies, player also goes!


More questions as I remember! :)

My ONIDA TV is finally dead!!

Need to buy new one in a week before everyone at home starts shouting at me for being lazy!!! :D
 
For the DVD player... If possible, dump the optical drive. Get a media player like the ones from WD or Netgear. They can stream content from your computer or mobile. And of course support USB drives as well.
