Kicking off its drive to achieve a pan-India presence, Sun Direct TV Pvt Ltd, a leading direct-to-home (DTH) service provider in South India, today formally launched its services in Gujarat market.

Starting with Ahmedabad, the DTH service provider plans to roll out its services in entire western region of the country.
An 80:20 joint venture between the Maran family and Astro Group of Malaysia, Sun Direct plans to make DTH a common man's product and that is one of the reasons for choosing Gujarat as its first launch pad outside Gujarat, which has the potential of around 4 million households for its DHT product.
Soon, the company will have distributors and dealerships across all districts of the state, said Tony D'silva, chief operating officer, Sun Direct.
As a part of launch offer the company will provide 130 channels at a price of Rs. 99 per month.
Sun Direct offers a basic package of 130 plus channels for a reasonable introductory offer of Rs. 999 for 10 months along with free dish and a set-top box. However, consumers will have to pay Rs. 1,000 towards installation charges.
The company plans to launch its services in the unexplored markets such as the North East, Orissa, Maharashtra, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir as well as West Bengal in the first phase of its expansion.
Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and other states of Hindi speaking belt would be targetted in the other phases of expansion. Sun direct hopes to complete its pan-India presence within next 45 days, he added.
As a part of expansion plans, the company plans to invest around Rs. 150 crore for marketing. At present, the company has a customer base of 1.4 million and it aims to take the number to 3 million plus subscribers by the end of current fiscal.
Sun Direct is also ready to offer High Definition Televison (HDTV) and it is currently aggregating HDTV content. The DHT service provider hopes to come out with HDTV over next few months.

I am really amazed without sports and Sony channels how they are entering in north. I think before their second phase they might include sony channels.
