I’m someone who typically uses around 500GB of data each month on my PC, 20-30GB on my iPad, and 50-70GB on my phone, totaling roughly 600GB a month. my parents together consume about 100 GB, and my sister uses approximately 200 GB on her iPhone and MacBook combined. This brings our total to 900GB of data usage each month.
However, I’m concerned about hitting the 1TB limit, as going over it results in a speed reduction to 2Mbps, which is only really suitable for basic tasks like WhatsApp messaging. Airtel doesn’t offer data boosters like Jio, so I’ve considered offloading excess data usage onto my mobile hotspot, specifically for tasks like downloading PC games, torrents, and movies. This way, I can preserve the 1TB data cap for my family’s regular usage. While I can manage with my 4G hotspot, it’s inconvenient for my family.
Recently, I experimented with using Vi's unlimited data 12am-6am , by downloading 50GB of content overnight, and it worked well. Vi provides 20Mbps during peak hours, up to 50Mbps after midnight, and even 60-75Mbps around 5am.
Last night, I connected my PC to my iPhone 11 via a wired connection, placed the phone by the window to maximize signal strength, and started downloading torrents. The average speed for one of the game downloads was impressive.
For now, this is the best workaround I’ve found to deal with the 1TB limit. If you have a 5G phone and Jio 5G, that could be a good alternative, though I'm unsure if Jio allows torrent downloads, and I’ve experienced that they block Epic Games downloads on 5G.
