This might seem like a Noob question.
Are there ANY benefits to upgrading? Are there any Changelog or User Testimonials to read?
Usually, Firmwares are welcome. But this is BSNL, and we all know the uphill battles with this company and its LCOs / Agents.

@alap4m my reply is several months late but upgrades can offer multiple benefits including security (most important) followed by compatibility and added functionality.

Normally BSNL does this automatically for you via their push server. And normally firmware upgrades are recommended but not necessary unless the update has critical security bugs fixed.

But if you are brave enough you can do this yourself. Make sure:

a) You choose the correct firmware for your router model and hardware revision. This is very important or you'll wind up bricking it.
b) You connect the ONT via cable, not wireless which is risky in case of signal drops.
c) You connect the ONT to a UPS to ensure the process completes without fail even in case of a power failure. A power failure mid way through the process will brick the ONT.

I just upgraded my Syrotech with the latest firmware. Works perfectly.

@Chip Thanks for the reply. Appreciate the same.

I am aware of the benefits and pitfalls of Firmware upgrade.
In BSNL's case, there are added complexities. Hence, I was extra cautious.
Additionally, the SY-GPON-1110-WDONT has a lot of Grammatical errors. Hence, I feared if I had a duplicate/counterfeit XPON device. Such devices can easily brick if their firmware is touched.

@alap4m bro a firmware upgrade is not a necessity. If you're not comfortable don't do it. But should you choose to do this in the future please remember to take the precautions I listed above.

I have the GPON 2010 (Wifi AC 1200) model BTW which was provided by the LCO at a nice markup of course.
