Even with mpeg2 technology one TP can carry upto 16-18 channels.Say 16.Then also 12*16=192 channels. There is lot of space in other satelites like INSAT 2E which are also 83 degrees to East.Tata Sky can use them.Take example of Dish tv.They are providing 170 channels with 11 TPs.Out of these 35 are from DD.So 170-35=135 plus space used for active services and EPG and audio channels.

MPEG2 & MPEG4 are different method of digital video compression and are not inter-compatible, so present Tata Sky STB will not support MPEG4
Insat 2E doesn't have Ku band TP's so it cannot be used, but in future if ISRO launch any satellite on 83 degree, then TATASKY can lease some TP's from it and we can receive channels from same satellite by same dish, just like how DISH are currenlty providing channels from NSS6 & Insat 4B as both satellites are placed in close vicinity (SKY in UK also use 4 satellites for DTH service - Check Sky Digital on Astra 2A/2B/2D & Eurobird 1 at 28.2°E - LyngSat)

Well I will correct you that Dish Tv used only 8 TP not 11. :D

dish tv now has 12 TP too
Nope. They have 8 Tp of own + 5 TP of dd which makes 13 TP.

However they buyed all 5 but only take 1 at this time. Other 4 TP will be give to Dish Tv once payment has been completed.

So at the moment Dish Tv use only 8 TP to carry all Dish Tv channels and servcies.

its 12 Tps not 13dishtv had 7 Tps earlier + 5 new Tps = 12right now they are on 8 TpsThe quality will decrease very much if more than 200 channels are shown on dishtv. In this case Tata Sky has edge over dishtv.

Griping is good. We suffered in silence for decades under the 'take it or leave it' cable era. At least we have the option to choose the party we can gripe about. Only the cable operators were talking about loss of dth during rains; dth operators were silent on this issue. At least the new subscribers can see the list of channels available before buying.

We certainly cant blame the DTH operators for this. Each service provider either DTH or Cable has its own merits and demerits. To have a proper regulation on tv viewing in india atleast it will take another 5 years.
