BS Reporter / Bhubaneswar July 15, 2007
Tata Sky, a joint venture between the Tata group and Star, is approaching the one-million subscriber mark in the country. The company will be the first direct-to-home (DTH) operator to achieve the feat.
"We hope to achieve this milestone within the next couple of days," Vikram Mehera, chief marketing officer, Tata Sky said.
Meanwhile, with a view to provide customers convenience, the company has launched a special promotional offer ‘Ek-pe-Teen and Do-pe-Paanch'.
Giving the details of the offer, Mehera said that the offer entails 3 months of free subscription on the purchase of one connection, and five months of free subscription on purchase of two or more connections.
The company provides services in over 4,200 cities in the country. The top 50 cities account for about 50% of the total business. He, however, did not reveal the business figure.
Stating that the company has taken a number of initiatives for eliminating billing related problems, he said, Tata Sky has introduced Converse’s Kenan FX billing software for all residential, institutional and commercial customers. Asked about achieving the break even, he said, the DTH platform has a longer gestation period. “We are running a huge project of Rs 3,000 crore for the entire country. It will take time to earn profit,” he said.
