My question to you shaile is why Tata Sky doesnt have premium sports channels in its highest base back??I expect most of the channels to be in the highest base back.Thats one more reason why airtel, big tv and videocon are good.Offtopic:Btw how much does tatasky pay for your reputation manager job??Just curious you know

I want to bring in my own perspectives in this discussion. It is not my point that Tata Sky is absolutely perfect. It has it's flaws (which company doesn't? 
) . But then thing I want to ask is , is it sensible to move just for one channel? You need to make a thorough cost-benefit analysis and then decide, don't deciding on impulse. What about other packages? what about services? etc... Every individual has different TV viewing habits, so there is no one size fits all solution to all. Each person makes his own decision. So let's not generalize about Tata Sky. It works out really well for me and I think it is good. You may differ but these are a matter of perception.Personally, I think not having too many channels in base pack is a good thing and I am grateful to Tata Sky for that. I know too many people who are NOT-sports lovers and they wouldn't be too happy to pay for these channels (nor would my parents) . so having add-on is convinent and reasonable as you pay for what you watch. Nothing more or nothing less. So I support Tata Sky in this regard.

I don't agreed your points. TataSky especially lacks many south regional channels instead of channels or compared other DTH services. They faced more condemn when removed DD-Pothigai and then added years ago and now moved to interactive mode.
An another example as you talk about parents, my mother like to watch NGC, Animal Plant and Discovery. These channels not come in base pack but you can get atleast NGC and History channels.
Same as Sports pack, many of them need for sports channels at least Star group sprots channels but the cost more in tatasky. So, the list of dissatisfaction with TataSky more and more.
Really i dont know about BIG and Videocon but can say TataSky is worst in south side. I was used last three years and more, finally moved to Airtel.
I can't easily adopt with Airtel till date but satisfaction there. It has may points you can read within week in Airtel DTH area.

After installing tata-sky in march 2006 , now i want to move on with some other dth service. Please advice me which is currently best value for money.

I have read the latest updates news talking about Tata Sky's future prospects to be a HD provider it has recently added new channels and although a particular channel might be of great importance to an individual I totally disbelieve that more the number the better as no one will be watching channels even above 100 there might be your favourite show and these may be in select channnels which Tata Sky might or might not provide the same will be the problem in other dth FOR EXAMPLE what if a dth has 300 channels and not the 1/2 channel that you view the most it will influence your decision that it does not fall in your category and build an impression that you dislike the dth. Apart from channels according to me a person would select a DTH is for the offerings and promotional benefit one receives the DTH sector has introduced interactive services which is of great help and the Actve puppet is a new form of communication that TV can actually dance to our tune.

First, it is very difficult to make out head or tail of this post, apart from you are all praises about TS...as you will notice that there are lot of TS users who off late have agreed that TS is the worst provider of wide range of channels and is the worst in making customized packages....TS has been promoting its mega pack so that viwers get locked on to it for a year. I had two separate connections on mega pack when it was for 5k but with the increase in the price its seriosly not worth it and I have not renewed both the packs. TS forces us to take the LS gold Pack or the Cosmo Pack if we like maybe 1 or two channels from there....Seriously if I get colors and imagine I can do without the LS gold Pack. Then it does not provide english language feed in the family pack (How ridiculous)...If you want english language feed on Discovery/NGC you are forced to take SS pack. So basically you have no choice.
TS is very restrictive in what they offer...but thankfully they have competition which is going to wipe them out of the market. They have been harping about no feasibility of low priced model (like Sun and Videocon) and I might agree with them as a business but as a consumer I want choice. and TS certainly doesn't have that.
Also I will like to remind you that TS has the largest no. of Transponders (12) whereas Sun/airtel/big have only 8 each but they manage to give more channels than TS. Why because they broadcast in MPEG4. MPEG 4 again as fought by TS in court (and the battle won) is a better compression technology and does not improve the picture. Bu it does imrove the picture for the same band width. And yes the other providers are not giving the same band width but are compressing more channels in the available bandwidth....NOW the question is why did not TS do the same.....AND the answer is because TS said that it is cheaper to take more TP(rental for TPs being lesser) than invest in MPEG4 STBs(Mpeg4 STBs cost more than what Mpeg2 STB)...So TS did not go for the better solution but for the cheaper solution,,,AND as all know there are no more TPs available for renting so TS is stuck.....Greed never pays.....
Also one more example of Greed....Fox channels as all know is available on SUN for free belongs to TS group...but TS group made an exclusive deal with SUN for extra money of course and denied its own viewer base of these channels......and SUN gave it for free on its platform...TS got an exclusive deal with Discovery as it seems(though Discovery keeps advertising on its channels that it is not exclusive) and put it on a separate cosmo pack
So now you know why I have airtel iptv...not because I like airtel iptv...but because i have begun to hate TS...though they might have the best CC in the world but still ....
