Thats right, but what I was talking about was formating HDD through PC in formats like NTFS or FAT32, etc.
Formatting HDD through menu will cause no harm, and will just erase all recordings and may increase operating speed (if STB performance appears sluggish)

During my research on XTV i found out that the HDD has different file system than Fat / Fat32/ NTFS and should not be directly connected to the PC as windows puts recyle folder and some file changes which should not be done. its better to mount the HDD through a usb connecter...it will involve a sata to usb connector.

So before mounting that drive please google on Sky HDD upgrade and follow the procedures:cool2:

1. USB port may be used to connect an external hard disc to increase recording time; with HD, available recording time will be less than half.2. modem to connect to existing tel line, for interactive services, direct ordering, and feed back on user preferences.

I have a small query - :O I have noticed that my TS+ STB's colling fan at its rear does not seems to work. I have noticed this from the point of powering on the STB from mains to normal it's working like Live TV Viewing, Live Pause, Rewind, FF>>, Record & Playback etc. The fan's blades does not even moves even if there is a load of 2 shows being recorded simultaneously on two channels when STB is online or even in standby mode. I observed it quite often. I asked the TS+ engineer about this after his insallation at my place but he replied that it only works when needed to cool the STB if it gets heated after prolonged use. :o Now I wish to ask you PPL if this is Normal, have any one of you noticed the same behaviour of this cooling fan on ur STBs. I use my TS+ for about 6-8 hrs. a day & keep it in Standby otherwise (at night or when not in use) but have never noticed the fan working at all. Is the fan defective, behaving abnormally & should I report it to TS's CC ? Pls. advice.

:) dude with due respect to your expertise, are the above mentioned statements your assumptions of the actual facts.

About modem, its fact, as I too have seen and used functionality of modem in STB. It has a telephone line connected to STB, and many operations like ordering movie, adding package, fault troubleshooting can be done through it.But about USB port, seen it, but never used it, nor have any idea if it can be used for adding USB based memory.

Check the Foxtel Australia HD Blog.... There they say that the USB and the eSATA(Provided in foxtel STB) port will be used to add external drives in the near future. Since its near future for people in Australia, so I think it shall be the Distant future in case of Tata Sky

Both are realities, mate; have patience. TS may condescend to offer these to us. Both need only software upgrades.
