Tata Sky plans new add-ons for customers
Chandigarh, Sept. 13: With the cable television homes across India projected to grow from the existing 70 million to 160 million by 2015, Tata-Sky plans to introduce several new technological add-ons for its customers including the capability to record and view programming at the user’s convenience.
“We will offer PVR or personal video recorder boxes within a year’s time,” Tata-Sky's chief marketing officer Vikram Mehra said on Thursday. These will enable users to pre-select and record several hours of programming across the available channels and view it later at the simple flick of a button. The box comes equipped with built-in as well as expandable memory. “For instance, viewers could actually sit down on a Sunday morning or late after work and watch the last five episodes of Koffee with Karan,” Mr Mehra said.
The DTH technology, Mr Mehra said, is already available and operational with Rupert Murdoch’s Newscorp, which is one of Tata-Sky’s parent companies. According to him the company is ready to deliver the new technology through its existing network but is currently in the process of sorting copyright and related issues with broadcasters.
